HELLO MALAYSIA! Or shall I say, my new Malaysia?
But first, hellooooo my bloggg! I’ve been MIA for awhile, and
I’m finally back! Was a lil caught up with college stuff (life of a ll.b
student..ahh, nope not complaining at all).
So yes, back to the topic. Malaysiaaaa! 9th May 2018
and 10th May 2018, such historic dates for the country. Something I
and every other Malaysian out there will remember for years to come. I wasn’t
born when our country got its independence from the British. I couldn’t
experience what it felt to be free, couldn’t feel the pride and joy of being
united as a nation. But I guess these dates made up for it!
For those who don’t know, on the 9th of May, Malaysia
had it’s 14th General Elections. And for the past 60 years (since we
got our independence), the country was ruled or rather, governed by only one
party. Mainly because they were not only good, but they benefitted the people,
worked towards making a better Malaysia, were filled with politicians whom the
people adored. There were absolutely no complains.
Howeverrrrr, with time, things changed. People were no longer
happy, some (or most) people felt that the country was losing its essence.
Scandals, corruption, murders and what not. It wasn’t the worst, but it was
bad. Over the span of 20 to 15 years, many people came out of their comfort
zones, to question certain things, to work towards reforming the then
government and to bring the country to a better state. Various struggles, slanders
and failed efforts were what these people went through.
But as they say everything good and bad comes to an end. So did
this. It was now, that the people, the ‘rakyat’, came together as one, and
decided it was time for a change. People went all out, from 21 year olds, going
out there to vote for the 1st time, to the reallyyy, really old,
grandmas and grandpas, who braved the heat and long queues, to vote to make a
change for their future generation. It was overwhelming to see this kind of
unity!
It was such a bummer that I couldn’t vote! I’m just a year
younger! Butt that didn’t stop me and my friends who were constantly checking
the current statistics and we kept ourselves updated on everything that was
happening. It was a day, I felt all the love I had for my country coming out
(more than when Lee Chong Wei plays, and the crispy rendang case, or any other
thing that usually unites us) I couldn’t be bothered about anything else,
totally ignored any tweet which had nothing to do with the GE14, skipped all
non Malaysian instagram and facebook stories.
Watching all the videos where the rakyat got together, and did
their very best to not allow any foul to take place, definitely made me tear a
little! What a feeling that was.
And after an extremely long day, a day full of nervousness. I
don’t think me and my friends were even this nervous when we collected out SPM
and A-level results. Not even kidding! At about 4am, on the 10th of
May, the results were announced. And history was created. A change has been
made. This is the voice of the people, which has spoken louddd enough.
Democracy prevailed!
My favourite Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir, he was the PM when
I was a lil kid. The country was at its peak during his reign. Malaysians,
especially we the 90s kids, absolutely adored him. Every politician have their
respective flaws, no one could possibly be perfect, and so did Tun M. But
coming back to serve the country at the age of 93! Woah. Leaving his comfort
zone,(as he was the 4th PM of Malaysia, and was an integral part of
the previous government), to join the opposition party, forming coalitions with other great individuals, going around the country campaigning at such an age
(though he is a thousand times more active and alert than a 20 year old me!). I
have so much respect for this man.
Also, we cant forget the other great individuals who worked day
and night, who did their best for the nation. They fought through every
hardship they were put through, and stayed strong through every defamation they
had to face. And we definitely owe it to them. Thank you J
On the morning of 10th May, the rakyat(people) were
rejoicing. It felt like a new Malaysia! It was Merdeka all over again. Freedom
of speech was restored, the peoples voice were heard, the government now
consists of a mixed spread of people. Screw the 1 Malaysia tagline guys! We are
all Malaysians, screw the ticking of races in all the borangs(forms). This
feels so, so good.
There were a lot of revelations too, which definitely shook us.
Im not gonna touch on that too much, but God bless y’all.
I also wanna thank the previous government, I know they had to
face a lot of criticisms, trolls, and what not these past few days. Despite
everything, we can’t ignore the fact that they had no doubt done many things
for us, the people and the country. Many MPs were loved by the people. It would
be very wrong for us to be unappreciative of their efforts, and to blame the
whole party. Just know that your efforts were not gone unnoticed, they are
still appreciated by the people. Thank you for 60 years of serving the country!
So finallyyy, most people are pro government now! So am I. I
feel more Malaysian than I’ve ever felt, and I just like every other Malaysian,
can now go around saying that I not only love my country, but also my
government!
Here is to hoping for a better Malaysia. I really hope the new
government lives up to the expectation of the people. And I also hope the unity
amongst us never dies! And oh, just for the record, I’m not Indian, I’m
Malaysian! (thanks to our new Finance Minister for this!)
Me being me, I also couldn’t control the law student in me! Yes,
Public law makes soo much sense now! When Tun M said, ‘Rule of Law’, ahh budak
ni berjakun pulak. Several other stuff which were also related to public law
got me all excited, so forgive this jakun, 1st year kid.
Oh and before I end, sorry for all the outburst on all my social
media these past few days. I couldn’t control the Malaysian in me!
